The Noosa Long Weekend is a 10 day culture festival which takes place in Australia, the event features a variety of entertainment from music, to film to workshops. Taking place in Noosa Heads, Queensland, the festival is regarded as an important date in the culture calender, both in it's homeland and on an international level.


2012 line-up highlights

There is over 80+ cultural events planned, with the following highlights to look forward to:

  • An opening night performance by Australian music diva, Debra Byrne with her new show Ripe.
  • David Williamson's new black comedy 'When Dad Married Fury', the preview of Bruce Beresford’s new film 'Peace, Love and Misunderstanding' starring Jane Fonda which will be followed by a question and answer session with Mr Beresford and Richard Fidler
  • A free Paul Smith photographic exhibition of music legends.
  • A contemporary dance performance produced for the Australian Ballet’s 50th Anniversary from Brisbane’s Expressions Dance Company.
  • Barbra Streisand impersonator Steven Brinberg with his show Simply Barbra direct from New York.
  • The very first Noosa Book Club with Jennifer Byrne, Marieke Hardy, Jason Steger, Charlotte Wood and Di Morrissey.

Events will be split amongst the following categories: Theatre, Dance, Music, Supper Clubs, Food, Literature, Forums, Visual Arts and Workshops.


One of the organisers, David Williamsons states that “Noosa is not just a tourist destination, it's a real community, and unless you contribute to that community, you do get the feeling that you're just perpetual tourists,’’

History and facts

The Noosa Longweekend festival was launched in 2002 by a local group of creative visionaries wanting to blend their passions with the beautiful environment that is Noosa. The festival’s founding members include prominent Australian playwright David Williamson, author Kristin Williamson, internationally renowned violinist Brett Dean, environmental activist Dr Michael Gloster, restaurateur Leonie Palmer-Fischer together with Rick Clayton and Ros McCauley.
