The Montreux Jazz Festival is the second largest jazz festival in the world and the largest jazz festival in Europe, as well as being Switzerland's largest festival of any variety. With a lineup that isn't exclusively Jazz, the festival caters to a wider audience than hardened jazz fanatics, but also acts as a gateway to jazz for those who are less familiar with it.
Vibe
Though it orignated as a pure jazz event, the festival also welcomes various other genres to the event, while remaining a jazz cenrtic festival.
Stages and other entertainment
The Convention Centre hosts the two main stages, as well as other smaller cafe venues and smaller open air stages around the Centre.
There are also themed shows held on boats and train cars, as well as workshops and competitions in the nearby Montreux Palais and Le Petit Palais.
Age Limit
Under 6's are not allowed to attend the festival, whereas under 16's must be accompanied at all times.
You must be 18+ to attend shows in the following venues: The Montreux Jazz Boats, The Rock Cave, The Studio, Bar El Mundo, aftershows at Motnreux Jazz Lab and at Montreux Jazz Club.
Disability Access

Weather
July is the prime tourist season for Montreux, with average temperatues of 19C ranging up to 33C. Rain is just as common but Switzerland summers are rarely overcast as they receive plenty of sun.
