Hopscotch Music Festival is an annual 3-day music festival held in Raleigh, North Carolina every September. Founded in 2010 by Independent Weekly, a local alternative newspaper, Hopscotch music festival is now owned by Carolina Independent Publications and hosts local, international and continental acts with an emphasis on variety.

2013 Line-up

2013's line-up features performances from Kurt Vile & The Violators, Big Boi and The Breeders.

Hopscotch is most famous for having line-ups defying one-genre categorisation - as a result, it's difficult to pin down one atmosphere beyond 'inclusive' or 'diverse', but general consensus and anecdotal evidence suggests that the regular crowd are energetic and enthusiastic, meaning the festival's vibe is more frenzied than relaxed.

As a festival, it seems to particularly appeal to local residents, because 35% of acts performing hail from the immediate North Carolina area.

History & Facts

From its inception in 2010, Hopscotch festival has comprised an eclectic mix of rock, hip-hop, alt-country, metal, dance, punk, classical, noise, drone, folk, and more.

Hopscotch was founded to provide the Carolinas with their own festival - after Independent Weekly journalists believed the area to be an unsung area of local musical talent.

Hopscotch does not take place in one venue, and in 2013 will feature 175 bands performing across 15 different venues.
