Described by InTheMix as "France's beachside electro playground", This is a festival for holidays to kick off the season. Calvi, with its sandy beaches, cobblestone streets and beautiful marina is a summer paradise.
Calvi on the Rocks brings together a range of performances ranging from electronic music, and pop to traditional music including the famous Corsican polyphonic singing and has a great line up of live DJs.
For many the event has been described as the French Coachella, with WorldReviewer.com stating "This festival has a reputation for memorable parties, or forgotten parties, depending on your tolerance.".
While it does have a slight international appeal, the festival is essentially French.
History and Facts
Jean-Marie Tassy the creator and owner of Uzik, a Paris-based advertising agency that has conceived some of the most impressive websites on the internet today like the Russian Standard Vodka and Nina Ricci websites is the head organiser of Calvi on the Rocks. The festival was started in 2003.
Music Stages and Other Entertainment
The Theatre de Verdure venue set at the foot of the town’s citadelle hosts a rock programme. There are also free day parties and night time gigs and live DJs at four beaches around the island; Diesel Island (Plage in Casa), Plage Octopussy and Plage du Bout du Monde.
The festival also has ‘Schweppes unexpected beach’ a silent beach which is a quiet zone for people to enjoy the music of the waves, as the organisers describe it.
Octopussy, Bout Du Monde and Plage In Casa are the main beach clubs and most day parties are held here. At night the festival moves to Théâtre de Verdure for all night parties.
Some years there have even been art performances, food gatherings and open-air theatre.
On site information
Calvi On The Beach is free admission and will take place between 3.00pm - 7.30pm at Diesel En Casa Beach.
Location and Travel
Calvi, a small beach town located on the northwest coast of CorsicaTo make the whole package even more irresistible, Calvi on the Rocks is thrown on the town’s 5 mile stretch of beach as well as in the many nightclubs that line it.
The nearest airport is Calvi or Bastia. Getting to the festival venue has been reported to be a bit of a hassle as there are no direct flights to Calvi from most European cities.
Also the airport is not well connected to the site, you might end up having to take a taxi or change buses to get there. Most reviews however find the festival to be worth the travelling hassle.
Depending on where you are travelling from, it is worth checking out Corsicabus.org for any bus information
