Bloodstock Open Air Festival is a three day heavy metal festival in the Midlands, having evolved from its indoor beginnings in 2001 into the outdoor event it is now.

With 3 days of heavy metal bands, DJ's and a capacity of about 8000, this ever growing festival is definitely holding its own and worth checking out if you want something different and seriously heavy!

You can buy tickets for Bloodstock here.

Early rumours suggest Sabaton

2013 headliners include King Diamond, Lamb Of God, Anthrax and more, click here to view the full line-up.

Bloodstock boasts the best part of 100 bands across four stages, showcasing the best in metal from our UK Underground to top International acts along with comedy, karaoke, a mini fairground, the Serpents Lair VIP bar (a fest within a fest for ale, cider and perry drinkers) and more, all wrapped up within the camaraderie and atmosphere that truly sets them apart from the rest.

This is a good festival for experts of Heavy Metal who prefer something different to the line-ups of the more mainstream choices like Download and Sonisphere.

Stages and other entertainment

There are three stages at Bloodstock each with a special history and musical importance attached to them.

The Ronnie James Dio Stage

Metal God Ronnie James Dio and his former Black Sabbath band members were scheduled to play at Bloodstock 2010, unfortunately Dio passed away on May 16th 2010.

In honour of Dio's legacy, the main stage has been permanently dubbed the Ronnie James Dio Stage.

The Sophie Lancaster Stage

Backing the worthy cause of S.O.P.H.I.E (Stamp Out Prejudice, Hatred and Intolerance Everywhere), the second stage at Bloodstock is named in loving memory of the late Sophie Lancaster.

In 2007, Sophie and her boyfriend were viciously attacked because of the way that they were dressed. Attacked in a local park in Bacup, Lancashire, Sophie later died in hospital due to the severe injuries she received in the attack.

In a bid to raise awareness to the prejudice that alternative subcultures face, The Sophie Lancaster Foundation was set up, with Bloodstock amongst others playing a big part in raising money for the cause.

New Blood Stage

Formely known as the unsigned stage, the New Blood is a vital boost for new metal bands to showcase their sound to the metal crowd.

Those who play on the New Blood stage also appear at Wacken Open Air in Germany and Metal Camp in Slovenia, due to a deal that Bloodstock has with it's partners.

Aside from the music there is also plenty of food areas, bars, stalls and heavy metal karaoke.

Bloodstock is also known to book comedy acts as part of the lineup.

And there is also a signing tent, which can be found near the Ronnie James Dio Stage. A chance to meet your favourite band and gain that important signature and photo, you must bare in mind that Rock Society members and VIP campers will get priority queuing
